Toyota Launches New Yaris Cross In Malaysia With Petrol And Hybrid Variants

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor has officially launched the new Toyota Yaris Cross in Malaysia, strengthening its presence in the growing compact SUV segment with both petrol and hybrid options.

The B-segment SUV is priced from RM99,900 for the petrol variant, while the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) version starts from RM109,900.

According to UMW Toyota Motor, the model is now available for booking at authorised Toyota dealerships nationwide and is locally assembled at Toyota’s Bukit Raja manufacturing plant in Selangor.

Ravindran K, president of UMW Toyota Motor, said the company continues focusing on practical automotive technologies that suit Malaysian driving patterns and consumer needs.

He said hybrid technology remains among the best options for helping consumers transition gradually towards electrified mobility without drastically changing their daily driving habits.

“The technologies we introduce are always designed around the needs of Malaysian consumers, and hybrid continues to provide a more accessible and practical pathway towards electrification,” he said.

The Toyota Yaris Cross was developed for buyers seeking a compact SUV offering fuel efficiency, practicality and a driving experience suitable for both city use and daily commuting.

The hybrid version is powered by a 1.5-litre engine paired with Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 111PS.

Toyota claims the model can achieve fuel economy figures between 27.8km per litre and 33.3km per litre based on internal company testing.

Meanwhile, the petrol variant is equipped with a 1.5-litre engine mated to a CVT transmission producing 106PS and 138Nm of torque.

In terms of equipment, the Toyota Yaris Cross comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, rear USB-C ports and a powered tailgate with kick sensor.

The SUV also offers a 471-litre cargo space designed for family and everyday practicality.

For safety, the model is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense featuring driver assistance technologies such as Pre-Collision System, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, Automatic High Beam, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

In addition, the Toyota Yaris Cross features 210mm ground clearance and a claimed 600mm water-wading capability, making it suitable for Malaysian road conditions and flash flood situations.

UMW Toyota Motor is also offering a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, while the hybrid battery receives an eight-year warranty extendable up to 10 years.
