Penang DAP Branch Publicly Invites Anthony Loke To Contest In The State
GEORGE TOWN: The Kampung Kolam branch of DAP has become the first branch in Penang to openly declare support for party secretary-general Anthony Loke to contest in the state during the next election.
The resolution was unanimously approved during the branch’s annual general meeting held yesterday.
According to reports, the motion was proposed by former Komtar assemblyman and former Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik, who was also elected as the branch’s new chairman.
The proposal was seconded by branch secretary Khoo Yeong Ming.
Ng Wei Aik said the resolution reflected the branch’s aspiration to strengthen the party and drive Penang towards greater development.
According to him, Penang has long been regarded as a major stronghold and frontline state for DAP.
However, he claimed the current state leadership is increasingly facing issues involving uneven leadership quality, factional disputes and money-driven political campaigns.
He believes the time has come for Anthony Loke to play a larger leadership role in Penang.
According to him, Anthony Loke’s presence would strengthen the party’s electoral prospects while helping elevate Penang’s development further.
Apart from the resolution involving Anthony Loke, the annual meeting also passed several additional motions concerning the party’s direction in Penang.
Among them was a proposal prioritising party members with Tanjong backgrounds as candidates for parliamentary and state seats in the area.
The branch also urged party leaders to contest at least 21 state seats in the upcoming state election.
In addition, a new policy proposal was introduced to limit party members from contesting elected positions for more than three consecutive terms.
The resolutions are viewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen internal party reforms while creating opportunities for new leadership within DAP.
