Umno Has No Objection To Political Funding Bill, Says Azalina

Party’s Official Position Still Being Finalised Through Ongoing Discussions

BANGI — Azalina Othman Said said United Malays National Organisation (Umno) currently has no objection to the proposed Political Funding Bill being studied by the government.

However, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) clarified that the party has not yet finalised its official position as the process of gathering views from all political parties is still ongoing.

According to her, every political party is being given the opportunity to provide feedback before any final decision is made regarding the proposed legislation.

“So far, there is no objection from Umno. However, the matter has not been formally brought forward because each political party is still giving its respective views,” she said.

She made the remarks during a press conference after launching the Madani Accountability Framework 2026 town hall session in Bangi today.

Azalina Othman Said, who is also information chief of United Malays National Organisation, said the proposed legislation remains under review and requires consensus from all political parties.

According to her, this is important because political parties themselves will become the primary entities governed by the law once it is implemented.

Previously, she stated that studies on the proposed Political Funding Bill are being carried out continuously to ensure its implementation can be conducted effectively and comprehensively.

The proposed law is aimed at improving transparency in political party financing while strengthening integrity within Malaysia’s political system.

Political funding has long been a major issue raised by civil society groups and political observers who have called for a more transparent and regulated financing system for political parties in Malaysia.

The government has also previously indicated that institutional reforms, including regulations involving political funding, remain among its key priorities in strengthening governance and accountability in the country.
