Cases Involve Smart Board Procurement Probe and Alleged Investment Fraud Worth Hundreds of Millions
KUALA LUMPUR — Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) will charge a former special aide to a Member of Parliament at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow over an investigation linked to the procurement of smart boards by the Federal Territories Education Department.
In a media invitation, the anti-graft agency said the man is scheduled to be charged at 8.30am at the court.
The case is believed to be connected to an investigation launched by MACC last year involving alleged irregularities in the procurement process that reportedly took place on November 14, 2024.
In March last year, Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia confirmed that the former special aide had been remanded to assist investigations related to the case.
In a separate development, MACC also confirmed that an investment and Islamic finance expert carrying the title Tan Sri is among two company directors expected to be charged at the same court tomorrow.
The businessman and another individual are expected to face charges linked to an alleged investment fraud scheme that reportedly caused substantial losses to investors.
Earlier in January, chief commissioner of Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia, Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of a businessman with the title Tan Sri suspected of involvement in an investment scam that allegedly resulted in losses exceeding RM300 million over the past two years.
According to him, a woman who also serves as a board member of the Kuala Lumpur-based company was detained to assist in the same investigation.
Investigators are believed to be focusing on allegations involving misuse of investor funds and suspicious financial activities linked to the company.
The high-profile case is expected to attract significant public attention due to the involvement of several influential individuals, including a former political aide and prominent corporate figures.
