
‘Allah’ Shrine Case: Shop Owner Detained, Probe Ongoing
KANGAR, May 3 — Police have detained a 61-year-old man to assist investigations into the display of the word “Allah” in a small shrine located at a hardware shop along Persiaran Jubli Emas here.
Perlis police chief Muhammad Abdul Halim said the suspect, believed to be the shop owner, was arrested at around 3pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Police have urged the public to avoid speculation or provocative remarks and to allow authorities to carry out a thorough investigation.
The incident came to light following the circulation of a video on social media showing the inscription inside the shrine, which prompted several police reports.
Authorities are now working to identify the individual responsible for recording and disseminating the footage, while also collecting statements from the shop owner.
Further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation in accordance with the law.
