James Chai Expected to Appear at MACC Headquarters Tomorrow for Statement Recording
PETALING JAYA, April 27 — Former aide to Rafizi Ramli, Chai Jin Shern, is expected to present himself at the headquarters of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Putrajaya tomorrow to have his statement recorded.
According to sources, Chai is scheduled to arrive at around 10am to assist in an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities linked to a major agreement involving Arm Holdings plc.
“His statement will be taken as part of the investigation process,” a source said.
The development follows earlier efforts by the MACC to secure Chai’s cooperation. On April 1, the commission confirmed that he had been identified as a key individual required to assist in the probe.
Prior to that, a notice to locate him was issued on March 4. However, a letter dated March 9 from his legal representatives informed the commission that he was unable to attend due to travel costs and work commitments.
The MACC subsequently granted an extension, setting March 31 as the new date for him to appear, but Chai did not confirm his attendance.
A follow-up letter issued on April 1 then required him to present himself within two weeks.
The investigation stems from a report lodged on February 12 concerning alleged misappropriation involving an investment valued at RM1.11 billion, reportedly linked to a former senior minister.
Authorities have since recorded statements from 17 individuals, including officials from the Ministry of Economy and agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), as part of efforts to establish the facts of the case.
