UMNO Shah Alam Slams Online Insult Against Selangor Ruler, Calls for Firm Enforcement

SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Shah Alam division of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has denounced the circulation of a manipulated image involving Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, describing it as a serious affront to the dignity of the royal institution.

Its chief, Azhari Shaari, said the act represents more than personal disrespect, warning that it undermines the sanctity of the Selangor monarchy, which serves as a cornerstone of the state’s identity, unity and constitutional framework.

Speaking after filing a police report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters, he said such behaviour reflects a disregard for Malaysia’s laws, traditions and moral values.

“This is not a trivial matter. Any attempt to ridicule or challenge the dignity of the monarchy must be addressed with strict legal action,” he said, stressing that there should be no tolerance for acts that erode respect for national institutions.

The report was lodged following the spread of a digitally altered image on social media that portrayed the Sultan in a degrading and offensive manner.

Azhari urged authorities to act decisively in identifying those responsible and ensuring they are held accountable under the law.

He also called on enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to move swiftly in investigating the case and curbing the spread of such content online.

According to him, allowing such actions to go unchecked could weaken public respect for key national institutions and threaten social harmony.

He added that the people of Selangor continue to hold the monarchy in high regard and expect firm measures to be taken against those who attempt to insult or undermine it.
