Police Confirm Fugitive in Latest Domestic Violence Case Linked to Earlier Jahidah Incident

SUNGAI PETANI, April 27 — Police have confirmed that a man suspected in a recent domestic violence case is the same individual previously convicted in a widely known case involving Jahidah Nordin.

The suspect, Rosmaini Abd. Raof, 43, is currently on the run after the latest incident reported in Ambangan Heights last Thursday.

Kuala Muda district police chief Hanyan Ramlan said investigations, including verification of marriage records and police reports, established that the suspect is indeed the same person involved in the earlier case.

“We have identified the suspect and are actively pursuing him. His possible location has been traced and efforts to arrest him are ongoing,” he said.

Authorities have yet to record a full statement from the victim, who is still undergoing treatment and remains in a traumatised condition. Initial information gathered indicates a history of domestic abuse linked to the suspect.

The case has been reclassified under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing serious injury.

The 39-year-old victim, who works in the healthcare sector, is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim following the incident.

Police said the couple had married in a neighbouring country in December, although the marriage has not been formally registered in Malaysia.

Investigations also suggest the suspect fled after the incident, allegedly taking valuables and cash estimated at about RM50,000.

In the previous case, the suspect had been sentenced by the High Court in Johor Bahru to 10 years’ imprisonment for causing severe harm to Jahidah, who remains in a coma.

However, the sentence was stayed pending an appeal. The court had imposed bail conditions, including a higher bond, regular reporting to the police, and restrictions on contacting the victim and prosecution witnesses.

Police continue to intensify efforts to locate the suspect and have urged members of the public with relevant information to assist in the investigation.
