Arthur Joseph Kurup Reshapes Sabah BN Leadership to Strengthen Political Machinery
KOTA KINABALU, April 26 — Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) has restructured its state leadership as part of a broader effort to reinforce its political machinery, with chairman Arthur Joseph Kurup emphasising the need for a more organised and competitive party structure.
He said the newly finalised line-up blends experienced leaders with younger members to enhance the party’s responsiveness to evolving political challenges.
Balancing Continuity and Renewal
Arthur described the reshuffle as a strategic move to revitalise the party, combining fresh perspectives from younger leaders with the stability provided by seasoned figures.
This balance is seen as key to strengthening BN’s position in Sabah’s political landscape.
Core Leadership Maintained
Jafry Ariffin remains deputy chairman, while Mohd Hasnol Ayub continues as secretary.
Vice-chairman roles have been filled by Richard Kastum, Teah Heok Kuin and Chandrra Segar Soosaimany.
Meanwhile, Noraini Idris, Sufian Abd Karim and Ummi Nabilah Jamal now head the party’s key wings.
Building on Electoral Momentum
Arthur linked the restructuring to the need to sustain momentum following BN’s recent by-election victories in Kinabatangan and Lamag, highlighting the role of cooperation within the Sabah Unity Government machinery.
MA63 Remains Central Agenda
He reaffirmed that Sabah BN will continue prioritising the full implementation of Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the 40 per cent revenue entitlement.
Strategic Positioning for the Future
Arthur added that the strengthened leadership structure is intended to position BN Sabah more effectively for future political contests, while maintaining a constructive approach in addressing state issues.
