Family of Muhammad Faiq Zafran Mohd Jailani Holds On to Hope Despite Prison Sentence in Japan
KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Even after a Japanese court handed down a four-year prison sentence, the family of Muhammad Faiq Zafran Mohd Jailani is refusing to give up hope, continuing their efforts to bring him home.
For them, the verdict is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a difficult fight for a second chance.
Hope Amid Uncertainty
Family lawyer Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin confirmed that the sentence relates to three charges, to be served concurrently from his arrest in November 2025.
However, she stressed that legal avenues remain open, including the option to file an appeal with a higher court.
Looking to Legal Provisions for Relief
The family is also placing hope in Article 25 of Japan’s Penal Code, which allows for suspended sentences under specific circumstances.
If applied, it could potentially enable Faiq to return to Malaysia under conditional terms.
Claim of Being Misled by a Syndicate
Relatives insist that Faiq was not a central figure in the case, but rather someone who was misled by a scam syndicate.
This claim is expected to form a key part of the appeal process.
Unwavering Family Support
Throughout the trial, his father, Mohd Jailani, remained present, following each stage of the proceedings alongside the legal team.
His presence reflected the family’s continued commitment and support during a deeply challenging period.
Holding On to a Slim Chance
Despite the legal setback, the family continues to cling to hope — however small — that a different outcome may still be possible.
For them, every legal option represents a chance, and every effort is driven by the hope of bringing him back home.
