Amirudin Shari Unveils Sungai Lang Fisheries Industrial Zone to Strengthen Value Chain

SABAK BERNAM, April 26 — Selangor is moving to strengthen its fisheries sector with the development of the Sungai Lang Fisheries Industrial Zone, aimed at building a comprehensive processing hub and enhancing the industry’s value chain.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the project will be implemented in phases, focusing on downstream activities that can generate higher economic returns from fisheries resources.

Expanding Beyond Storage to Processing

He noted that the zone will go beyond traditional storage and freezing functions, evolving into a fully integrated ecosystem that includes seafood processing and the production of value-added food products.

These developments are expected to take shape within the next five years.

Regional Processing Hub Potential

The Sungai Lang site is positioned to serve as a central processing hub for fisheries output from surrounding areas such as Sabak Bernam, Bagan Datuk and Kuala Selangor.

This approach aims to streamline supply chains and improve efficiency in distribution and production.

Distinct Role From Sekinchan Project

Amirudin highlighted that, unlike the Selangor Integrated Landing Port (SILP) in Sekinchan — which focuses on landing facilities and eco-tourism — the Sungai Lang project is designed specifically as a processing and industrial hub.

Economic Growth and Job Creation

The 240-hectare development, currently in the master planning stage, is expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate local economic activity once operational.

Initial Investment and Infrastructure Needs

The project will require an estimated RM100 million to RM200 million in initial investment to establish essential infrastructure, including roads, water supply and electricity.

It is being developed through collaboration between the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA), private sector players and Menteri Besar Selangor (Pemerbadanan).

Sustainable and Technology-Driven Development

Aligned with sustainability goals, the zone will adopt modern aquaculture technologies and environmentally responsible practices.

These include efforts to preserve coastal ecosystems such as mangroves and marine biodiversity while boosting productivity.
