Negeri Sembilan Assembly Session Deferred Following Royal Opening
SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan state legislative assembly’s first sitting has been postponed to a later date after its official opening ceremony, Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun confirmed.
The sitting, originally scheduled to take place from April 27 to 29, was formally opened earlier by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Wisma Negeri.
Aminuddin said the decision to defer the session was made to allow the state government to determine a more appropriate date in light of current circumstances.
Session limited to ceremonial proceedings
State Assembly Speaker MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman explained that the day’s proceedings were confined to the royal address, which officially marked the start of the Fourth Term of the 15th assembly.
He added that the sitting has now been adjourned, with a new date to be fixed upon receiving royal consent, after which an official notice will be issued.
Absence of traditional leaders noted
The opening ceremony took place despite the absence of the four Undang—customary leaders of Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau—as well as the Tunku Besar Tampin.
Their absence, considered unusual, was confirmed through a joint statement issued the night before, in which they advised that the sitting be temporarily delayed until matters concerning the state’s royal institution are resolved.
Governance to continue uninterrupted
Despite the postponement, Tuanku Muhriz underscored in his royal address that the administration of the state must continue as normal to ensure stability and protect the interests of the people.
Observers say the move reflects a cautious approach to current sensitivities, while maintaining continuity in governance.
