Tuanku Muhriz Calls for Restraint and Rule of Law as Negeri Sembilan Navigates Tensions
SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan’s ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has urged all parties to remain calm and act within the bounds of the law as the state faces ongoing institutional developments.
Delivering his royal address at the opening of the First Sitting of the 15th State Legislative Assembly at Wisma Negeri, Tuanku Muhriz stressed that decisions—particularly those made by leaders and officials—must be anchored in facts, proper procedures and established legal principles.
He warned against allowing emotions or personal bias to influence actions, noting that such behaviour could erode governance standards and undermine the stability of the state.
Continuity of administration remains critical
The ruler emphasised that the machinery of government must continue to function smoothly, regardless of the current situation, to ensure the welfare of the people remains protected.
He also clarified that the absence of several traditional leaders at the ceremony did not affect the legality or validity of the assembly proceedings.
“The administration must carry on as usual to safeguard continuity and ensure orderly governance,” he said.
Public urged to verify information
In a separate message to the public, Tuanku Muhriz highlighted the importance of responsible communication, particularly on digital platforms.
He cautioned against the rapid spread of unverified information, stressing that misinformation could harm public order and create unnecessary tension.
“Do not be quick to believe or disseminate information without proper verification,” he said, adding that public discourse should be guided by responsibility and awareness.
Assembly proceeds despite absence of Undang
The state assembly convened as scheduled despite the absence of the four Undang—customary chiefs representing Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau—who had earlier announced they would not attend.
Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun did not comment on the matter when approached by reporters after the ceremony.
Meanwhile, State Assembly Speaker MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman affirmed that all procedural requirements were fulfilled, with the royal address formally marking the opening of the session.
He added that proceedings would continue as planned, with the sitting adjourned to a date to be announced later.
Observers say the ruler’s remarks serve as a firm reminder of the need for discipline, lawful conduct and institutional respect during periods of uncertainty.
