Youths Encouraged To Reject Divisive Politics And Embrace Maturity

SEREMBAN: Young Malaysians have been urged to embrace mature and respectful political values by accepting differences in opinions and rejecting hostility caused by political ideologies.

Royal Patron of Dewan Waghih Negeri Sembilan, Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz said youths now play a major role in shaping the country’s future following the implementation of Undi 18 and the growing number of young voters nationwide.

According to him, politics should not be viewed merely as a battleground for power struggles but rather as a platform to strengthen unity, develop the nation and serve the people.

“The country needs a young generation capable of having different opinions without becoming hostile, and one that can debate with knowledge, manners and mutual respect.

“Mature politics is politics that unites society and helps move the country forward,” he said during the opening and oath-taking ceremony of the 2026 Dewan Waghih Negeri Sembilan here today.

Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz said inclusive and consensus-driven leadership culture is essential in ensuring society remains harmonious despite differences in views and backgrounds.

According to him, national development cannot be achieved without cooperation, while society cannot progress if divisions continue to exist.

He also encouraged youths to use platforms such as Dewan Waghih to learn how to listen to differing opinions, accept criticism openly and solve issues collectively.

“Use this opportunity to strengthen cooperation and understand that differences should never become reasons for hostility,” he added.

At the same time, Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz reminded youths to adapt wisely to rapidly evolving technological developments.

He said advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), digital media, the digital economy and automation offer major opportunities for young people to improve their skills and build a better future.

However, he stressed that technological progress also presents challenges, including emotional pressure, mental health concerns and the spread of misinformation that may negatively influence society.

“Young people must use technology responsibly so that digital progress can benefit both personal development and society,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dewan coordinator Muhammad Izzaq Arif Sanizan said 36 members received appointment letters for this year’s Dewan Waghih Negeri Sembilan session.

He said each appointed member will represent one of the 36 state constituencies throughout Negeri Sembilan.

According to him, Dewan Waghih Negeri Sembilan is a continuation of Dewan Waghih Siswa, which was first introduced in 2023 before being rebranded under Yayasan Negeri Sembilan.

He added that the platform was created to provide youths with opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in community development and engage in discussions involving the nation’s future.
