
Terengganu JPJ issues 2,351 summonses in Motorcycle Special Ops throughout January
KUALA NERUS: A total of 2,351 summonses were issued in the Special Motorcycle Operation carried out throughout Terengganu from Jan 1 to Thursday.
State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Zamri Samion said this was the result of inspections of 7,438 vehicles including motorcycles, cars and other private vehicles.
He said that RTD also issued 101 vehicle use prohibition notices, vehicle inspection notices (117 pieces), summons for questioning (312 pieces) and confiscation notices (73 pieces) during the same period.
“A total of 1,063 vehicles were taken to task for various offences. Among the highest offences recorded by motorcyclists was not wearing a helmet.
“Other offences include modifying vehicles, not displaying registration numbers, registration numbers not according to specifications and other technical offences,” he said during the Special Motorcycle Ops at Seberang Takir Beach, here, on Friday.
Mohd Zamri said that Terengganu RTD will intensify its Special Motorcycle Operations this year, especially in several hot locations, namely Bandar Baru Kuala Nerus, Jalan Mengabang Telipot, Jalan Padang Nenas, Jalan Durian Burung-Manir, Jalan Wakaf Beruas-Bukit Payong, Jalan Chendering, Kampung Teluk Ketapang, Kampung Losong and Jalan Taman Tamadun Islam.
He said the move follows an increase in offences involving motorcycles in recent years.
“Last year, 25,358 summonses were issued in the Motorcycle Special Ops compared to 23,457 summonses in 2024.
“For the Motorcycle Special Ops (Mat Rempit), a total of 2,409 notices were issued while 268 motorcycles were seized during the same period,” he said.
