Soapbox Launches Ditto To Revive A More Open And Creative Social Media Experience
SILICON VALLEY: Soapbox has introduced Ditto, a new open-source social platform designed to give users greater control over their digital identity, content and overall social networking experience.
The launch comes at a time when increasing numbers of internet users are seeking alternatives to traditional social media platforms that are often criticised for heavy algorithmic control and corporate ownership of user accounts.
According to Soapbox, Ditto was developed as an open social hub connecting decentralised networks including Bluesky, Mastodon and Nostr within a single application.
Through this integration, users are able to follow and interact with communities across multiple platforms without switching apps or losing their digital identity.
Ditto also places strong emphasis on creativity and deep personalisation by allowing users to customise profile themes, fonts, colours, layouts and backgrounds.
Users can additionally share profile designs with other community members, creating a more personalised and unique social networking environment.
The concept reflects the more open and creative atmosphere of the early internet era before modern social media evolved into highly standardised and algorithm-driven platforms.
Beyond standard social features, Ditto includes an encrypted messaging system designed as digital letters complete with animated envelopes and custom virtual stationery.
The platform also introduces “Blobbis,” virtual pets that evolve and change according to user interactions within the application.
From a technical standpoint, Ditto operates on a decentralised architecture powered by Nostr, allowing users to fully control their identities and social relationships through cryptographic keys.
The system ensures users are not locked into a single platform, as accounts and content remain portable across compatible applications.
Soapbox said Ditto’s main vision is to rebuild a more open, creative and user-controlled internet experience.
The application is now available via App Store, Google Play, Zapstore and the official web platform at ditto.pub.
