Selangor End Super League Campaign with Six-Goal Rout but Miss Out on ACL2 Berth

PETALING JAYA: Selangor FC wrapped up their Malaysia Super League season in emphatic fashion after crushing PDRM FC 6-0 at Stadium Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, but the dominant victory was still not enough to secure qualification for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) next season.

The match turned into a showcase for Mukhairi Ajmal, who delivered an outstanding performance by scoring a hat-trick to inspire the Red Giants’ commanding display under head coach Kim Pan Gon.

The national midfielder opened the scoring as early as the eighth minute before adding his second goal during first-half stoppage time, helping Selangor establish a comfortable 4-0 lead before the break.

PDRM FC struggled throughout the contest and failed to contain the relentless attacking pressure from the home side as their defensive line repeatedly came under heavy punishment.

Import striker Alvin Fortes also emerged as one of the standout performers after netting twice within two minutes.

He first found the net through a direct free-kick in the 27th minute before striking again in the 29th minute to further extend Selangor’s advantage.

The hosts continued their aggressive approach after halftime, with Aliff Izwan Yuslan adding the fifth goal shortly after the second half resumed.

As the match approached its closing stages, Mukhairi Ajmal completed his memorable hat-trick with another impressive free-kick effort in the 88th minute.

Despite recording one of their biggest wins of the season, Selangor FC ultimately fell short in the race for second place after finishing the campaign with 52 points.

Their hopes of securing an automatic berth to Asian competition were dashed after Kuching City FC edged Kuala Lumpur City FC 1-0 to retain second place with 53 points.

The outcome forced Selangor to settle for third place in the final league standings while missing out on a direct ticket to next season’s ACL2 competition.

For PDRM FC, the heavy defeat capped off a disappointing season as the team finished bottom of the table with only 11 points.

Nevertheless, the convincing result could provide a morale boost for Selangor FC ahead of their upcoming ASEAN Club Championship final on Wednesday.
