Company Director Charged With Criminal Breach Of Trust Involving RM1.4 Million

KUALA LUMPUR: A company director linked to a steamboat restaurant chain pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to charges of criminal breach of trust involving more than RM1.4 million in company funds.

The accused, Yong Pitt Lok, 48, entered the plea after the charge was read before the court.

According to the charge sheet, Yong allegedly misappropriated RM1,468,958.29 belonging to the company by transferring the funds into his personal bank account for his own benefit.

The offence was allegedly committed between March 11 and October 24, 2024 at a premises located along Jalan Radin Bagus 8 in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

The charge was filed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, whipping and a possible fine upon conviction.

During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zul Hilmi Latiff proposed bail at RM120,000 with one surety.

However, defence counsel Lee Keng Fatt appealed for a lower bail amount, arguing that his client is the main breadwinner of the family.

He also told the court that Yong had cooperated fully with police throughout the investigation process.

“My client poses no flight risk and has consistently attended whenever called to assist investigators,” the lawyer said.

The defence further requested that the court allow Yong to retain his passport, citing the need for overseas travel related to business matters.

After hearing submissions from both parties, Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail at RM50,000 with one surety.

The court then fixed June 26 for case mention.

The case has attracted public attention due to the large amount of money allegedly involved and its connection to a business operating within Malaysia’s food and beverage industry.
