Awie Confident Ilham And Pae Can Strengthen Wings For 3 Veto Concert

PETALING JAYA: Awie believes Wings will continue maintaining its reputation as one of Malaysia’s leading rock bands despite performing without two of its original members at the upcoming 3 Veto Concert on August 1.

The concert, scheduled to take place at Megastar Arena, will feature Wings sharing the stage with fellow legendary rock acts Search and XPDC in what is expected to become one of the country’s biggest rock concerts this year.

According to Awie, the absence of Black and Eddie does not affect the group’s confidence because their replacements, Ilham and Pae, are experienced musicians whose abilities are already well recognised within the local music industry.

He said both musicians bring their own strengths and are capable of injecting fresh energy into the band’s performance.

“Everyone already knows Ilham and Pae. They are not unfamiliar names in the music industry and fans already recognise their capabilities,” he said during a recent press conference for the concert.

Awie described the collaboration with Search and XPDC as something special, especially since the three iconic groups have never previously performed together in the same concert format.

He revealed that the band had received similar invitations in the past, but scheduling conflicts and existing commitments prevented the collaboration from materialising earlier.

“We received offers for this concert before but never had the opportunity to make it happen.

“This time the concept is more exciting because it brings together three major rock bands in a single concert.

“I’ve shared the stage with Search before, but never together with XPDC in this kind of format,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the collaboration would create a memorable experience for local rock fans who have followed the musical journeys of all three groups over the years.

At the same time, Awie stressed that the band’s priority is not merely about who appears in the concert, but ensuring fans receive a performance worthy of each band’s reputation.

“Who we collaborate with is not the main issue. What matters most is fulfilling our responsibility to deliver the best performance possible for fans who buy tickets and continue supporting us,” he said.

He added that all members are currently making thorough preparations to ensure the concert meets audience expectations and runs smoothly.

The 3 Veto Concert is expected to become one of Malaysia’s biggest rock music events of the year as it brings together three influential bands that played major roles in shaping the country’s rock music scene over the decades.

The collaboration between Wings, Search and XPDC is also expected to attract thousands of fans from different generations eager to witness Malaysia’s rock legends performing together on one stage.
