UTM Achieves New Position in QS World University Rankings 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has reached a new position in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) 2025 by jumping seven spots to rank 181st among the world’s best universities.

In a statement, UTM announced that the university remains among the top 200 universities and is ranked within the top 12 percent globally out of 1,500 ranked universities.

“This significant achievement demonstrates UTM’s continuous efforts in providing high-quality education and impactful research, aligning with the enVision UTM 2025 Strategic Plan,” the statement said.

UTM reported a significant increase in the citations per faculty across the university in this edition of the QS WUR, reflecting the success of high-quality research with high productivity.

“UTM has maintained its position as the second-best university in Malaysia, while emerging as the top university among Research Universities in the country, thereby demonstrating the university’s dedication to continuously advancing knowledge and driving innovation.

“Additionally, UTM’s International Research Network has rapidly expanded. This achievement highlights UTM’s excellence in building rich and diverse international research collaborations, thereby enhancing the quality and transparency of its research, which leads to solutions for pressing local and global issues,” the statement added.

According to the statement, UTM also showed improvement in the Employability Indicator, reflecting the university’s success in ensuring a high employability rate for its graduates while shaping future leaders who will make a significant impact in their respective fields.

UTM’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, expressed high appreciation for the university’s staff dedication, students’ commitment, and unwavering support from alumni and partners, which have propelled UTM’s position in the global ranking and played a significant role in the university’s continued success.

“As UTM celebrates its improved position in the QS WUR 2025, we remain steadfast in our commitment and trust to continue developing and enhancing knowledge, nurturing talents, and addressing societal challenges through innovative solutions.

“Our collaboration, encapsulated in UTM’s motto ‘For God and Humanity,’ has been the key to this success, as it could not have been achieved without cross-departmental synergy,” he said.

In this year’s QS WUR edition, each university was evaluated based on nine key criteria: Academic Reputation, Faculty Citations, Employer Reputation, Faculty-Student Ratio, International Faculty, International Students, International Research Network, Sustainability, and Employability.
