US Ambassador Sees Potential for Collaboration with Sarawak in Clean Energy Development

KUCHING: Sarawak’s efforts to boost environmental protection initiatives, particularly in promoting clean energy, offer significant potential for collaboration with American firms.

US Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D. Kagan, stated that new cooperation opportunities could be explored, given that Sarawak has made significant progress, especially in the development of hydrogen as a clean energy source.

“Sarawak is the true leader in this field, and there are opportunities for US companies.

“This also creates a great opportunity to strengthen the US-Malaysia partnership,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly building here on Tuesday.

He noted that US firm investments in Sarawak have been longstanding, starting with involvement in the oil and gas industry before expanding into other industrial sectors.

“One of the largest (in the high-tech industry) currently is Western Digital, which employs more than 2,000 people at its plant here,” he said.

Kagan mentioned that the company is as large as the American oil and gas firms that have been present in Sarawak for decades.
