KLANG: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will expand the 2024 Seniors Exercise Program to 120 locations across the country to continue cultivating active lifestyles among the elderly.

The minister in question, Hannah Yeoh, said the expansion of the pilot program that started last May will be done through two phases of organizing, involving 50 locations in the first phase and 70 locations in the second phase.

He said his party was aiming for 21,000 seniors to participate in the program this year.

“There are six series of fitness activities, including aerobics, chair aerobics, walking, dance, taichi, and yoga, for each location, and the activities are organized for free on weekends,” she said at the launch of the 2024 Seniors Exercise Program at Taman Rakyat, Taman Sri Andalas, today.

According to him, the program is a KBS initiative through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), following the findings of the Round Table Discussion Session (RTD) Related to Sports Cultivation Among the Elderly held on February 8.

In addition to directly benefiting the target group, Hannah said the program can also raise awareness, especially among family members and caregivers, to encourage the elderly to continue playing sports and practicing an active lifestyle.
