The ‘scientists go to school’ program is expected to start this month – MOSTI

GEORGE TOWN: The “STI 100 on the Power of Three” (STI 1003) program involving 100 scientists, 100 schools and a 100-day implementation period is expected to start this month, according to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

His minister, Chang Lih Kang, said his party wanted to speed up the implementation of the program to respond to the call of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and take into account the benefits that can be given to students and the country.

“For a period of 100 days, we will implement this program in 100 schools. We already have all the plans and the cooperation and permission of the Ministry of Education.

“MOSTI through the Malaysian Science Academy (ASM) is also ready with a list of candidate scientists under the management of ASM and we expect to start this month,” he told reporters after officiating the National Science Week (MSN) 2024 at Han Chiang Secondary School here today.

He said this list of local scientists not only consists of researchers but also involves practitioners of various industries, including biotechnology, space and nanotechnology.

He said the STI 1003 program will be run together with programs such as AI for Youth, MSN and STEM Camp.

“This program has no special syllabus because these scientists will be invited to motivate and inspire students.

“We will combine the STI 1003 program with existing programs; for example, when we organize a STEM Camp, these scientists will be invited to give talks to students

Belai said a program like this is MOSTI’s effort in fueling and intensifying STI culture activities in the community, especially for students and youth through non-formal learning activities outside the classroom.
