KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a village chicken investment fraud syndicate involving a loss of more than RM3.2 million in raids in several states on June 26.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said in the raids in Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Terengganu and Labuan, the police arrested a total of 11 individuals aged 38 to 56 who were founders, directors, secretaries, clerks, agents and volunteers of the organization.
“Preliminary investigations found that a fraud syndicate hiding behind Pertubuhan Amal Kita Kinta, Perak, had been operating since the beginning of last year by promising the return of a village chicken or RM13 per month for every RM250 investment made by the victim.
“Investors will deposit their investment money in bank accounts belonging to the organization involved; however, starting from September 2023, the investors will no longer receive the promised profits and the police will receive 85 police reports across the country,” he said in a press conference here today.
In the raid, he said the police also confiscated various items, including 13 luxury vehicles, 13 gold chains, two gold rings, 20 smart phones, 17 laptops, eight check books, 37 bank cards and 71 sets of various documents in addition to 2,143 sheep.
Following that, the police froze 34 bank accounts and Unit Trusts with a total value of RM6.5 million belonging to the organization in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (AMLATFPUAA) Act 2001.
