SHAH ALAM: The Five-Year Program for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Malaysia is expected to be signed soon during Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang’s maiden visit to Malaysia, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

He said the two countries have agreed to implement the second round of the Malaysia-China Five-Year Program for Economic and Trade Cooperation, which will strengthen ties between industries in key sectors such as high-end manufacturing and the digital economy.

Tengku Zafrul said the program will also strengthen cooperation in robotics, entrepreneur development, innovation and start-up companies, as well as research and development in agriculture and key industries.

In addition to economic and trade cooperation, two government-to-government memoranda of understanding (MoU) are expected to be signed during the visit, including an MoU on strengthening investment cooperation in the digital economy as well as an MoU related to promoting investment cooperation in green development.

“This MoU will set the direction of companies from Malaysia and China regarding investment and business opportunities in various sectors,” he said while launching the Chery Malaysia assembly plant here on Tuesday.
