The action of rejecting the MoU provisions of the opposition does not mean the negotiations are over – Fahmi
KOTA KINABALU: The opposition’s action in rejecting the memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the allocation to them does not mean that negotiations regarding the matter have ended, said the spokesperson of the Unity Government, Fahmi Fadzil.
The Minister of Communications said this is because the government is always open to cooperation or negotiations with the opposition.
“In fact, since the first day the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) was sworn in, he has opened the door as wide as possible to hold cooperation or negotiation sessions.
“The government is ready if the opposition wants to continue negotiations on the MoU and Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has also informed us that we are waiting for feedback and proposal papers from the opposition,” he said.
Fahmi said this to reporters after officiating the Tradition In Tune 2024 Art Festival at the Sabah International Convention Center today.
Yesterday, the opposition unanimously rejected the draft MoU for four basic reasons that it said were against the Federal Constitution and claimed that some of the conditions imposed in the memorandum could affect, among other things, the privileges of Malays and Bumiputeras.
Fahmi also said the opposition parties need to be pure in their efforts to reach an understanding, as Pakatan Harapan (PH) did when they were in their place.
“At that time, we entered the negotiation session with a good heart and in the end, good came not only to PH MPs but also to the people,” he said.
Commenting on the Tradition In Tune Art Festival 2024, he hoped that people would use the opportunity to participate in events such as virtual reality art exhibitions, musical theater and e-sports tournaments that will last until Sept 18.
He said the event held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration was organized by the Malaysian Art Children’s Stage Association with the support of the Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
