Thai, Malaysian police strengthen cooperation in fighting cross-border crime
BANGKOK: The Royal Thai Police will continue to work with its counterpart, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), to combat cross-border crime and promote cooperation in police affairs.
Thailand’s Chief of Police, General Torsak Sukvimol, said the annual Thailand-Malaysia meeting serves as a platform for both countries to discuss various cross-border crimes and maintain cooperation in policing matters.
“It is an annual meeting hosted alternately by both countries. This reflects our dedication to maintaining order and building confidence in the communities of both countries,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement was issued in conjunction with the 27th Departmental Review of the Thailand-Malaysia Working Committee Council Meeting on Criminal Activities held here.
He added that the two countries will continue to uphold their commitment to fight cross-border crime by exchanging intelligence, resources and expertise.
Torsak said this year, the meeting focused on exchanging information on nine main topics.
He said the main focus included firearms smuggling and trafficking, stolen vehicles, human trafficking and illegal immigration.
“Economic crime, cyber crime, drug smuggling and trafficking, border security, maritime crime, terrorism and training and capacity building were also discussed during the one-day meeting,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to PDRM’s official Facebook page, a statement was published stating that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain attended the meeting, accompanied by Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, Kedah Police Chief Datuk Fisol Salleh and Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, in Bangkok on Tuesday.
