Taman Sri Muda receives a new pump house, reducing the risk of major floods – Exco
SHAH ALAM: The Taman Sri Muda Pump House Project has been fully completed with the addition of three screw pump units, which are expected to reduce the risk of major floods in the area.
Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco Ir Izham Hashim said the RM7.1 million worth of infrastructure that began construction in 2021 could increase water drainage five times faster than the previous capacity.
“Sri Muda is a low-lying area and receives a lot of water (if it rains heavily) and this is one of the flood mitigation projects we are implementing at the state level that has been fully completed.
“The advantage of this screw pump is its faster pumping capacity, it will not get stuck with rubbish compared to conventional pumps, and it is very suitable to operate for a long time,” he said after inaugurating the Pump House here on Monday.
Also present at the opening ceremony was the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu who is also the Member of Parliament for Kota Raja.
Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, is one of the locations that was severely affected by the major floods that hit this district last December 2021.
Meanwhile, Izham said the state government has also made an application to the federal administration for two urgent Flood Mitigation Plans (RTBs), namely RTB Langat 2 and RTB Sungai Buloh Phase 2.
He said the two projects involved cost up to RM1.2 billion, with a period of five years to be fully completed.
