Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation ceremony became the focus of global media
KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Ibrahim’s enthronement ceremony as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara on Saturday was a glorious ceremony that took place in an atmosphere full of tradition and was widely reported by the international media.
In Singapore, Mediacorp’s Malay-language platform Berita not only broadcasts news produced by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) but also shares photo reports on its social media pages.
CNA produced a detailed news video report on the ceremony, which was attended by hundreds of guests, including Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Ho Ching. The coronation ceremony was also covered by SPH Media, Berita Harian Singapura and The Straits Times (ST).
The Chinese News Agency Xinhua highlighted the coronation ceremony by stating the departure of the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
In its report, Xinhua mentioned Sultan Ibrahim’s royal order, in which he said he would carry out the responsibilities given honestly, sincerely, fairly and with full consideration to all the common people.
The British online newspaper The Independent covered the coronation by focusing on the background of His Majesty the King Sultan Ibrahim.
The Independent explained the practice of rotating nine Malay kings since the country achieved independence in 1957, with the position of Head of State being rotated every five years.
The Associated Press (AP) provided an overview of the coronation with the title, “What to know about Malaysia’s coronation of its King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar,” focusing on the role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Sultan Ibrahim’s background.
