Stadium Shah Alam Demolition Process Yet to Commence – Mayor
SHAH ALAM: The demolition process of Stadium Shah Alam for the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) has not yet been carried out, according to the Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
He said this was because the property development company had not officially submitted the full development plans for the project site to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
He explained that this was one of the conditions that the developer needed to fulfill before the demolition of the stadium could commence, even though the planning permission to demolish had been approved at the MBSA level.
“Many have asked why it hasn’t been demolished? Actually, there are conditions in that approval, including the requirement for the developer to officially submit the full development plans for the project site to the MBSA before the demolition works can be carried out.
“Even though the development concept is already in place, and discussions regarding it have been held between the developer and MBSA, the concerned party has not yet submitted the development plans to MBSA,” he said to reporters after being sworn in as the 12th Mayor of Shah Alam here today.
Last December, the Selangor Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, reportedly said that MBSA had issued approval to demolish Stadium Shah Alam and the demolition works would be carried out after the developer fulfilled the requirements mandated by the local authority.
The demolition process of Stadium Shah Alam is reported to involve a cost of RM35.5 million, with the reconstruction of the 40,000-capacity stadium expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Further commenting, Mohd Fauzi said the development process of KSSA is underway, especially concerning technical and documentation works.
“Physically, we may not see significant developments on-site, but the project development, especially involving technical and documentation works, is progressing well,” he said.
The media previously reported that the development of KSSA involves three phases, including the demolition and reconstruction of Stadium Shah Alam with commercial space and parking, expected to be completed by 2026.
This is followed by the second phase involving a closed theater, youth and sports wing, and recreational areas, while the final phase involves the construction of an integrated terminal and hotel, expected to commence from January 2028 to December 2029.
