Some social media platforms will be taken into action in the near future – Fahmi
CYBERJAYA: The Ministry of Communications will take action against several social media platforms, following several aspects of cyber bullying that happened before, said its minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He said that in his view the platform involved was not very serious in solving the problems facing Malaysians.
“I don’t think they care…so that’s enough.
“We will send a very strong and clear message to these platforms. Stay tuned,” he told the media after attending the 2024 National Moon Launch Ceremony and the Flying of the Jalur Gemilang 2024 here, today.
Fahmi said the decision was made as a result of discussions with three other ministries, namely the Digital Ministry, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reform).
He also said the ministry is working together to examine three to four matters.
Among them, involving existing laws, enacting new laws and in terms of implementing those laws.
“We look at the technology that is available today, whether it is artificial intelligence (AI), or various social media platforms, maybe the technical aspect we need to help the investigation and then to the prosecution aspect.
“So, framing the charges. Here I see there are several things for example in the case of the late Rajeswary Appahu or Esha, who committed suicide as a result of what was believed to be cyber bullying from a TikTok live session,” he said.
Fahmi said that he himself had seen a live TikTok session and felt that there were a few comments that were quite outrageous, as if they were aimed at allowing other viewers to lose their manners and sanity.
“These are called not only the perpetrators but also the purveyors.. not only those who do but also those who allow criticism and invite others to curse,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said as a result of the joint settlement session with about 2,000 MADANI Community members this morning, he will convey some of the views proposed by MADANI Community members, including aspects of the implementation of BUDI MADANI, to the Ministry of Finance.
“Some have stated that they need a little help especially in areas, for example in Felda or rural areas, for vehicles that have lost road tax.
“They need a bit of help. Some have also presented some views, including the allocation for BUDI MADANI… we have taken note of this. We will extend these proposals to the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
BUDI MADANI is the government’s vehicle for ensuring that subsidy allocations are targeted to deserving groups.
The 2024 National Month and Jalur Gemilang Flag Launch Ceremony which has the concept of a people’s carnival takes place from 9am to 4.30pm today, with various programs prepared to strengthen the spirit of patriotism among the people towards the National Day and Malaysia Day Celebration (HKHM) 2024.
