Six airlines resumed operations at Subang Airport on 1 August
SUBANG: A total of six airlines will resume operations at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS) in Subang, Selangor using single-aisle aircraft on August 1, 2024.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the six airlines are FireFly, AirAsia Malaysia, Batik Air Malaysia, SKS Airways, Transnusa, and Scoot Pte Ltd.
“The first aircraft operation is from Batik Air Malaysia which is scheduled to depart on August 1 to Penang at noon and the arrival of the Transnusa flight from Jakarta which is scheduled for 2pm on the same day,” he said at a press conference after a visit to LTSAAS which is also known as the Airport Earrings, today.
He said since the airport is located in a residential area, flight operations will start from 6am to 10pm only, with no midnight flights.
Single-aisle aircraft operations at Subang Airport resumed after all jet aircraft operations were transferred to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in 2002.
He said the airport has limitations in handling aircraft that use propellers such as turboprops, helicopters, light aircraft, military aircraft and business jets.
“After improvements for temporary jet operations, the ramp (apron) has been reconfigured. Six parking spaces are now able to accommodate single-aisle jet aircraft including Boeing 737 and Airbus A320,” he said.
Loke in the meantime said the gross floor area of the terminal increased by six percent from 21,467 square meters to 22,674 square meters, with three additional flight information display systems to accommodate the increased capacity.
“The check-in process is expected to be smoother with 14 check-in counters, four self-service facilities for luggage storage and 15 self-service kiosks to be installed.
“I will also raise about the need to install an automatic gate (auto gate) here in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow,” he said.
Regarding the approval of airlines to start operations of single-aisle aircraft, he said priority was given to local airlines and many airlines had applied to operate at LTSAAS, but the airport could not accommodate all requests.
He said this is only a temporary phase and will be developed further in two to three years.
LTSAAS will be transformed into a regional aviation hub with a maximum annual capacity of eight million passengers, in addition to generating thousands of high-value employment opportunities for Malaysians.
