Security at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and 2 is stepped up with 4 electric scooters

SEPANG: Security control at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and 2 here by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is further enhanced with the use of electric scooter micro-mobility vehicles. Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the use of electric scooters would expedite PDRM patrols, thereby increasing public confidence in the security of the country’s main entry point.

“Four electric scooters have been provided for the use of security personnel at KLIA Terminal 1 and 2, each receiving two.

“The purchase has been made in advance and it is appropriate for enhancing security control and public confidence,” he told reporters after handing over the four electric scooters here today.

He said all four micro-mobility vehicles worth RM55,000 were contributions from Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and would be supplemented if there were any further needs or requests.
According to Amirudin, these micro-mobility vehicles are commonly used in international airports abroad and can reach speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour (km/h).

“The advantage of these vehicles is that they can be used 24 hours once charged,” he said.

Amirudin said the use of these vehicles at the airport was crucial as it was a focal point in Malaysia, recording 60 million visitors annually.

“The daily average number of visitors is 250,000, with 251 aircraft operating at the location every day,” he said.

Previously, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the PDRM had increased controls and the number of officers and personnel deployed at KLIA Terminal 1 and 2, following a shooting incident on April 14. He said security control and monitoring currently involve officers and personnel from the KLIA District Police Headquarters and the General Operations Force (PGA) of the Department of Home Affairs/National Security.

In the incident at around 1.30 am at KLIA Terminal 1 Arrival Hall, a man fired two shots, with one hitting a local man who was also a private security guard
