Putin announced plans for a seamless international rail network
MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday announced plans to develop international transport corridors, including the establishment of a seamless rail network, Xinhua reported.
“We aim to create a barrier-free rail network from the Baltic and Barents Seas to the shores of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
“This is a big task and I am confident that with your expertise, experience and commitment to national interests, we will achieve it,” Putin said in a video on the occasion of Russian Railway Workers’ Day.
He also outlined major projects, including the construction of a high-speed railway integrated with the Central Transport Hub in Moscow, the creation of an international logistics corridor and the improvement of the transport route from Azov to the Black Sea.
“We need to accelerate the development of Russia’s railway infrastructure with advanced technological improvements, using the latest innovations.
“Our approach not only meets current needs but also prepares for future demands, ensuring progress for decades to come,” he said.
The president emphasized the importance of further modernizing Russia’s Eastern railway system, particularly the Baikal-Amur, Trans-Siberian Railway and the 700-kilometer Northern Latitude Railway in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region that connects to Arctic ports.
