Police hand over investigation of crashed plane in Sungkai to CAAM

IPOH: Police have handed over the investigation into the incident involving a Cessna 172N Skyhawk aircraft with registration number 9M-ADA that crashed near Felda Gunung Besout, Sungkai, yesterday to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

Muallim District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said that so far, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Transport is still conducting investigations at the scene of the incident.

“The initial information so far indicates that foggy weather is believed to be a contributing factor to the accident.

“The wreckage of the aircraft is still at the scene and the removal work will be managed by Layang Layang Flying Academy,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

He said both victims, flight instructor Captain Shahrul Imran Surea, 26, and trainee Ho Jia Lee, 20, have been transferred from Slim River Hospital to a private hospital.

According to him, Shahrul Imran has been admitted to a medical center in the capital city and will undergo surgery on his right thigh, while Ho has been transferred to a private hospital here.

The Layang Layang Flying Academy-operated aircraft carried two survivors in the incident, departing from Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here at 7:54 am, and the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Center (KLATCC) received the last transmission from the aircraft while it was in Slim River at 9:35 am.
