Perak Amanah Steps Up Preparations Amid Possibility of GE16 at Year-End

IPOH, March 13 — Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in Perak has begun strengthening its preparations as speculation grows that Malaysia’s 16th General Election (GE16) could be held either towards the end of this year or early next year.

Perak Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi said that although there has yet to be an official announcement regarding the election date, the party is closely observing current political developments while ensuring its organisational machinery is ready.

According to him, recent remarks from political leaders in several states as well as discussions among parties within the unity government coalition have raised the possibility that the next general election could be called sooner than expected.

Asmuni said Amanah Perak is taking these developments seriously by strengthening its preparations across all levels of the party.

Discussion on Simultaneous Elections

He noted that there have been suggestions from certain political quarters that state elections in some regions should be held simultaneously with GE16.

Asmuni explained that organising elections separately could result in higher costs for the government, political parties and voters.

If elections are conducted at different times, voters may be required to return to polling stations multiple times, which could increase financial and logistical burdens.

He added that such circumstances might also affect voter turnout if some voters feel that the repeated trips to polling stations impose unnecessary expenses and inconvenience.

However, Asmuni stressed that the matter remains subject to discussions at the national leadership level and will depend on negotiations among parties within the unity government.

Party Machinery Being Strengthened

On the party’s readiness, Asmuni said Amanah Perak consistently maintains early election preparations as part of its organisational strategy.

He explained that the level of preparation usually depends on how close the election is expected to be, but given the current political signals, the party has intensified its preparations.

Party machinery at both the state and grassroots levels is currently focusing on strengthening organisational coordination and refining campaign strategies to ensure readiness for any election announcement.

These preparations include improving grassroots engagement, expanding outreach efforts and ensuring strong communication between the state leadership and the party’s central leadership.

Focus on Existing Seats

Asmuni also indicated that Amanah Perak is likely to focus on a smaller number of constituencies compared with some of its coalition partners.

He said this approach allows the party to concentrate resources and strategies on key areas where it has stronger prospects.

Currently, the five seats won by Amanah in the previous election remain undisputed despite suggestions from some parties that adjustments could be made in seat allocation within the coalition.

However, Asmuni clarified that any discussion regarding seat distribution has yet to take place formally as the party is still awaiting direction from the national leadership.

He added that Amanah Perak will continue monitoring political developments while strengthening its readiness to ensure the party is fully prepared if GE16 is called in the near future.
