PDRM Investigates Andrew Sia Over Allegations of UiTM Practicing ‘Apartheid’ System

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is conducting an investigation into columnist Andrew Sia regarding his writing that alleges Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) practices an ‘apartheid’ system.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated that the investigation is being carried out under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“As of 6 PM today (Friday), a total of 14 police reports have been received nationwide.

“We are seeking profiling from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to obtain details of the article’s author to assist in the investigation,” he said yesterday.

Previously, UMNO Veterans supported the call from UMNO Youth for Andrew Sia to issue an apology. The demand for an apology was seen as the best course of action, in addition to retracting the article.

UMNO Veterans described Andrew Sia’s article as inflammatory and categorized it as touching on 3R (religion, race, and royalty) issues.

Additionally, the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) also filed a police report against Andrew Sia for referring to UiTM as an ‘apartheid academy.’

The police report stated that the article was unfair, prejudiced, and could incite anger among Malays.
