PDRM confirms that many investments using Telegram are fraudulent
KUALA LUMPUR: The public is reminded not to easily believe investment offers through social media that are too good to be true or too good to be believed, said Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) Director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
He said many investments made using the social media platform Telegram are scams.
“In the Telegram application, there are hundreds of investment offers and those who are interested in this investment group will be deceived and make a loss-making investment,” he said at JSJK’s weekly press conference here today.
Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil was informed yesterday that online crime cases are very worrying and this trend shows that traditional crimes have started to ‘move’ to cyberspace, including social media.
In a post on his official Facebook, Fahmi informed that he had heard a briefing on the issue from the Director General of the National Security Council, Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin, Director of Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain and a Deputy Director of JSJK Bukit Aman.
Fahmi was previously also reported as saying that there is a need to examine the existence of a new act related to the harm of online crime in line with the rapid development of technology.
