Palm Oil Free Campaign: KPDN Seizes Chocolate In Labuan
LABUAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Labuan seized a quantity of chocolate worth RM23,704.90 suspected to be labeled ‘No Palm Oil’ on its packaging, last Monday.
Its director, Junaidah Arbain, said the seizure was made after they raided a convenience store and a duty-free shop in downtown Labuan.
She said the case is being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Prohibition on Statements, Expressions, or Indications) (Palm Oil Products and Palm Oil Goods) Regulations 2022.
The regulations stipulate that any labeling that discriminates against palm oil products is prohibited.
If found guilty, the involved parties could be fined up to RM250,000 or imprisoned for up to five years.
“This seizure demonstrates the government’s commitment to enforcing regulations aimed at promoting fair trade practices and protecting the interests of the palm oil industry.
Junaidah urged the public to report any incidents related to discriminatory labeling on food products to nearby KPDN offices.
