No compromise on premises owners renting licenses, employing foreigners – Dr. Zaliha

PUTRAJAYA: All business premises owners in Kuala Lumpur are reminded to adhere to all regulations, especially those involving foreign workers, set by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to avoid the risk of license withdrawal or suspension. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr.

Zaliha Mustafa said she has directed DBKL to periodically monitor this matter to ensure issues such as leasing business licenses to foreigners without valid documents and hiring undocumented migrant workers are addressed. “They (premises owners) must use the proper channels when hiring foreign workers and must completely avoid paying undocumented migrants,” she said in a statement here today.

At the same time, she also expressed gratitude to the General Operations Force (PGA), the Royal Malaysia Police, for raiding and apprehending undocumented migrants on Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur, two days ago. In last Thursday’s raid, a total of 1,101 foreigners, mostly from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar, were detained after nearly a battalion of officers and police personnel from the PGA raided Jalan Silang, also known as “Mini Dhaka.”

The operation was carried out following public complaints about the behavior of foreign nationals monopolizing business premises in the area, acting arrogantly towards the local residents, and making the area seem like their own settlement.
