Nenggiri by-election: EC issued 41 postal ballot papers, no early voting day
PUTRAJAYA: No early voting center will be opened for the Nenggiri State Assembly By-Election (PRK), said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak.
In a statement on Monday, he said 43 postal ballot papers had been issued, consisting of 41 Category 1A postal ballots (election officers and police personnel) and two Category 1C postal ballots (agencies and organisations).
He said that the issuance of postal ballot papers was done by election officers who were appointed managing officers in the presence of postal ballot agents from the candidates who contested.
“All policemen involved in this by-election have been issued postal ballot papers. Therefore, no early voting centers will be opened on August 13, 2024 (Tuesday).
“The EC reminds all postal voters to mark the ballot paper, fill in the Declaration of Identity form (Form 2) completely and correctly, and immediately return it to the Managing Officer before 5:00 pm on Voting Day, which is August 17, 2024 (Saturday),” he said again.
In addition, he also reminded the voters to always keep their votes confidential by not taking photos of the postal ballot paper and spreading it on social media sites.
The Nenggiri by-election was held following the vacant seat announced by Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, following the former incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim’s removal from membership by Bersatu on June 13.
The nomination day on August 4 saw a one-on-one clash between Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.
The EC set the voting day for August 17, while the early voting day of August 13 will not be held after all 14 voters involved chose to vote by post, following their duty requirements throughout the campaign period.
The Nenggiri state assembly seat has 20,259 registered voters, involving 20,245 ordinary voters and 14 policemen.
