Muhyiddin: Disciplinary Action Against Bersatu Leaders Followed Party Constitution and Due Process
GOMBAK — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has defended the disciplinary action taken against several party leaders, including the suspension of vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, stressing that the decision was made in accordance with the party’s constitution and through a fair internal process.
Muhyiddin said the decision was not made arbitrarily but was determined by the party’s Disciplinary Board after carefully reviewing reports and giving the individuals involved an opportunity to present their defence.
According to him, the disciplinary mechanism within Bersatu operates independently and assesses each case based on evidence and established party rules.
“The process is handled entirely by the Disciplinary Board, which evaluates every case based on a comprehensive report,” Muhyiddin told reporters after chairing a Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting in Gombak.
He emphasised that the board does not act without justification and ensures that the individuals concerned are given a fair chance to respond before any final decision is reached.
Decision Made After Full Review
Muhyiddin explained that disciplinary action within the party is implemented only after a detailed evaluation of whether party regulations or constitutional provisions have been violated.
He dismissed claims suggesting that Bersatu members are not allowed to voice opinions within the party, saying such accusations were inaccurate.
“The Disciplinary Board does not make decisions casually. Those involved are given the opportunity to defend themselves before any ruling is made,” he said.
Muhyiddin reiterated that the party’s disciplinary procedures are guided by established frameworks and are designed to ensure fairness and accountability within the organisation.
Ronald Kiandee Suspended Under Party Constitution
Earlier, Ronald Kiandee’s membership rights in Bersatu were suspended under Clause 22.5 of the party constitution for a duration of two party election terms, with the suspension taking immediate effect.
The move sparked reactions within political circles after Ronald publicly questioned the decision and suggested that he might as well be expelled from the party instead of being suspended.
Responding to Ronald’s remarks, Muhyiddin described the comments as a personal opinion that may have been influenced by disappointment over the disciplinary action.
Muhyiddin: Reactions Likely Driven by Disappointment
While acknowledging Ronald’s right to express his views, Muhyiddin stressed that the party’s disciplinary decisions are not made unilaterally by the president or individual leaders.
Instead, they are determined collectively by the Disciplinary Board based on the facts presented during the investigation process.
“That is his personal view. Perhaps he feels disappointed and therefore says various things,” Muhyiddin said.
He added that party members are free to express opinions but must do so within the framework of the party’s rules and constitution.
Commitment to Upholding Party Discipline
Muhyiddin said Bersatu remains committed to maintaining discipline and integrity within its leadership structure.
He noted that adherence to party rules is essential to ensuring stability and unity among members.
The disciplinary process, he said, is intended not only to address violations but also to reinforce organisational accountability.
By following established procedures through the Disciplinary Board, the party aims to ensure that every decision is made fairly and transparently.
Muhyiddin also reiterated that the leadership respects members’ rights to voice their views but expects those views to be expressed in accordance with the party’s regulations.
The issue surrounding Ronald Kiandee’s suspension continues to attract attention as Bersatu navigates internal disciplinary matters while preparing for upcoming political developments.
