Mohd Ali reappointed as YDP Melaka for a second term

KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, on Tuesday graciously presented the Letter of Appointment to Tun Dr. Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam as the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka for a second term starting June 4, 2024.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara, and was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also present were Attorney General Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Chief Minister of Melaka Datuk Rauf Yusoh, and Speaker of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly Datuk Wira Ibrahim Durum.

Mohd Ali, 75, was previously appointed as the seventh Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka on June 4, 2020, succeeding Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob. He will serve as the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka for a four-year term.

Mohd Ali, who holds an Honours Degree in Social Science (Development Economics) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), previously served as Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Batu Berendam from 1995 to 1999, and as the ninth Chief Minister of Melaka from 1999 to 2013.
