MoH to Issue Statement Regarding AstraZeneca Vaccine Soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MoH) will issue a statement regarding the withdrawal issue of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by the British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant, AstraZeneca, in the near future, said its minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad.

“MoH will issue a statement regarding AstraZeneca soon; please be patient,” he said briefly to reporters after officiating the Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) Trial Connect 2024 Conference here today.

Previously, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), in its public statement on March 27, 2024, informed that the European Commission (EC) had withdrawn the marketing authorization for the vaccine named Vaxzevria, produced by AstraZeneca, in the European Union (EU) on the same date.

According to the EMA, the withdrawal was at the request of the marketing authorization holder, AstraZeneca AB, who informed the commission about its decision to permanently halt the marketing of the product for commercial reasons.

Vaxzevria was granted conditional marketing authorization in the EU on January 29, 2021, for active immunization against COVID-19.
