MITI special incentive framework AI Data Center

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) will draw up special incentives for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centers.
The matter was informed by his Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, through a post on his social media platform.

According to Tengku Zafrul, the AI Data Center brings a very clear and encouraging economic spillover.

“Investment in advanced technology infrastructure and AI data centers can support the Madani Government’s commitment to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda in all aspects, in addition to further launching efforts to transition to a high-income economy,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul also informed that, for the period from 2021 to 2023, Malaysia has approved investments in data centers and cloud services amounting to RM114.7 billion.

He said that during that period, there were 2,325 new high-value job opportunities in specific areas of expertise, such as data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, cyber security analysts and network engineers.

Accordingly, Tengku Zafrul explained that the National Investment Council has agreed that MITI, through its agency, the Malaysian Investment Development Board (MIDA), formulate an incentive framework.

This, he said, includes through the mechanism of using energy- and water-efficient equipment, as well as the provision of sufficient renewable energy to facilitate the investment of AI data centers in Malaysia.

“MITI will ensure that Malaysia remains the preferred investment destination for AI data centers,” explained Tengku Zafrul.
