Malaysia needs to take advantage of the opportunities from the ‘AI Ready ASEAN’ initiative
KUALA LUMPUR: The ASEAN Ready for Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative or ‘AI Ready ASEAN’ launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday, is expected to benefit 5.5 million people in the region.
The AI literacy program supported by a US$5 million cash grant from Google.org will be fully utilized by the ASEAN Foundation to improve basic AI skills among ASEAN residents.
Through the program, the ASEAN Foundation is ready to train 2,000 master trainers and 800,000 trainees throughout the ASEAN countries within a period of 30 months.
Meanwhile, the Director of the International Youth Center (IYC), Mohamed Maliki Mohamed Rapiee, said that he was also pleased to work with Steps Media Asia to move the initiative.
He said he hoped that Malaysia would not only get the opportunity but also be able to play a role since this country is at the forefront in terms of AI readiness.
“We believe that the initiative is easier to implement since the government has also given full support to the overall use of AI in this country.
“In addition, this initiative is also expected to be a starter program for the country in line with Malaysia’s election as ASEAN Chairman next year.
He said IYC is willing to cooperate in making the initiative a success with the hope that Malaysia will continue to play an important role given the country’s leading position in the field of AI.
He said it is hoped that the initiative can be used to increase the rate of AI literacy among teenagers, students, youth and teachers in this country.
