Malaysia, Kuwait discuss procurement of F/A-18 Hornet aircraft
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is in talks with Kuwait to acquire F/A-18 Legacy Hornet aircraft belonging to the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) for use by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the matter was discussed when receiving a courtesy visit from the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Malaysia, Rashed Mohammed Rashed Al-Saleh, today.
“Among the matters discussed is the country’s desire to acquire F/A-18 Legacy Hornet fighter jets after KAF receives its new Super Hornet.
“The meeting also discussed military-to-military cooperation, defense industry cooperation and the conflict in Gaza,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday.
Also present at the meeting were the Commander of the Air Force, General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan and the Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of the Ministry of Defense, Mohd Yani Daud.
In the meantime, he hoped that bilateral relations and defense cooperation between Malaysia and Kuwait could continue to improve and further benefit both countries.
“Defense cooperation between the two countries will continue to be strengthened through a memorandum of understanding that will be signed later,” he said. – Agencies
