Kuwait’s Emir Appoints Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Sabah as Crown Prince

KUWAIT: The Emir of Kuwait, Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, issued a decree on Saturday appointing Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah as the Crown Prince, reported Anadolu Agency, citing the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah assumed leadership of Kuwait in December 2023.

His decision to appoint a Crown Prince came about three weeks after he dissolved the Parliament on May 10 and suspended several articles in the Constitution.

He described the move as a “difficult decision to save the country and ensure its high interests.”

He added that the country is facing “unbearable difficulties and obstacles,” referring to disagreements between the government and parliament, which have led to multiple government resignations.

Crown Prince Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, born on March 15, 1953, served as Prime Minister from November 19, 2019, to July 24, 2022.

Last month, the new Kuwaiti government, led by Ahmed Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah and comprising 13 ministers, was sworn in before the Emir.
