KRT Pangsapuri Pelangi celebrates the national month, together with the Jalur Gemilang

GEORGE TOWN: The Rukun Tetangga (KRT) area of Pangsapuri Pelangi near Lintang Macallum, here, took the initiative to put up flags around the residential area to enliven the atmosphere of the National Month celebration.

In addition to responding to the Prime Minister’s call to fly the Jalur Gemilang, the initiative is also an effort to instill patriotic spirit, especially among people of multiple races, ethnicities and religions, as well as a symbol of love for the country.

KRT Pangsapuri Pelangi chairman K. Muniandy said the installation of the flag has been done every year since the establishment of the KRT 20 years ago in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebration campaign.

“This is a mandatory event that we do every year and the response is very encouraging among the residents, who are made up of multiple races: Malays, Chinese and Indians. We will also organize another program to hand over the Jalur Gemilang in each home unit.

“Our program today has the cooperation of the Penang Human Welfare Association, representatives from the office of the Pengkalan Kota State Assembly Member (ADUN) and the Tanjung Member of Parliament, who also attended to install about 80 Jalur Gemilang around the Pelangi Apartment area,” he said when met here on sunday.

Muniandy said that the apartment has approximately 1,500 residents who live in 960 house units in five blocks.

In addition to the Jalur Gemilang flying campaign, various other activities are also organized this month, including a coloring competition, composition, and a national quiz planned to be held on August 25 involving the entire apartment community.

Meanwhile, resident Nazaruddin Nordin, 65, said he enjoys living in the area because he can not only interact with communities of various backgrounds and races but also together organize activities such as flying the Jalur Gemilang.

“I have been sitting here since 1995. Here, all the residents live in a harmonious atmosphere, and there is never any conflict, even though they are of different races.

“My neighbors are also Chinese, and we respect and care for each other. If there is an activity, we will be involved,” he said.
