KPJ Healthcare launched the first academic health system in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) has launched the KPJ Academic Health System (KPJ Health System), the first of its kind in Malaysia, in conjunction with the second day of the Malaysian International Health Conference (MIH) Megatrends 2024.
The KPJ Health System integrates education and research in the hospital, thus making the hospital a center of learning and knowledge exploration where practice and innovation move hand in hand in line with the national health agenda to support Malaysia’s long-term vision for a world-class health system.
Chairman of KPJ Healthcare University (KPJU), Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, in his speech expressed his vision and emphasized that there is a need to reassess and reshape how healthcare works.
“It’s no longer just about treatment—hospitals need to grow beyond being a treatment centre.
“They should adopt the latest solutions, such as AI-based diagnostics and personalized medicine, and shift their focus to preventative care and overall well-being in order to create a long-term health system,” he said after the launch of the system by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, which was also attended by KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center here on Saturday.
The KPJ Health System is designed to improve patient treatment outcomes, empower continuous professional development for healthcare providers, and drive innovative research to address current and future health challenges, a move that places KPJ Healthcare at the forefront of healthcare innovation.
By adapting transformational technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and nanomedicine, KPJ Healthcare sets new standards for quality healthcare services across Malaysia, improving patient treatment outcomes and producing a generation of skilled healthcare professionals.
This initiative supports the government’s efforts to increase access to advanced treatment, reduce health disparities, and support the development of specialized treatment centers capable of treating complex medical cases, thus strengthening Malaysia’s health infrastructure.
The pre-launch of the KPJ Health System held a week earlier introduced key internal stakeholders to the vision of this system designed not only for the benefit of KPJ Healthcare patients and staff but also the wider community through a research-based health approach and a focus on education.
This is a manifestation of KPJ Healthcare’s slogan “Care for Life,” working closely between stakeholders and sectors to improve the quality of patient care.
MIH Megatrends 2024, which is also the country’s premier healthcare event, is organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with KPJ Healthcare and its strategic partner, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
This prestigious national event brings together global health leaders and professionals to explore the latest advances, share knowledge, and forge collaborations to improve the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of healthcare in Malaysia.
